Cosmetology Education Department Dismissal Policy


The Cosmetology Education Department reserves the right to dismiss a student from any cosmetology education program who presents problems in an unprofessional matter with clients, students and instructors, without responding satisfactorily to appropriate treatment and/or counseling within a reasonable period of time. (See Professionalism in the JSCC Cosmetology Department Student Handbook.)

A student may be dismissed from a cosmetology education program for academic or disciplinary reasons with or without being placed on probation prior to the dismissal. The Cosmetology Education Department reserves the right to decide the dismissal on a case-by-case basis depending on the events and the circumstances surrounding the reason of dismissal. The dismissal will be afforded due process. A dismissed student may follow the JSCC procedure for issuing a complaint as outlined in the JSCC Cosmetology Education Department Student Handbook under academic appeals.

Dismissal of a cosmetology education student may result from, but not be limited to, any of the following:

  1. Violation of the conduct policies as defined under the academic standards in the JSCC General Catalog for students (conduct, definition of disruptive conduct, drug and alcohol policy, JSCC software copyright, compliance policy, cheating policy, etc.).
  2. Willful destruction of school property.
  3. Failure to meet specified probationary requirements. (See Probation Policy in the JSCC Cosmetology Education Department Student Handbook)
  4. Intoxication or use of illegal drugs while in the clinical area or on school property.
  5. One incident of gross unprofessional conduct (i.e., hitting or cursing) (See professional responsibility in the JSCC Cosmetology Education Department Student Handbook.)
  6. Any willful or intended act that endangers the health, safety, or wellbeing of another person.
  7. Excessive absences from theory class or Salon lab (see attendance policy in the JSCC Cosmetology Education Department Student Handbook and individual course syllabus.)
  8. Excessive late entry and leaving early from class. (See attendance policy in the JSCC Cosmetology Education Department Student Handbook and individual course syllabus)
  9. Violation of NC State Board of Cosmetic Arts infection control and disinfection policies during the any salon service on a live client and/or manikin. Each student will be informed of the policy regulations of the NC State Board of Cosmetic Arts in the beginner classes.
  10. If a student is dishonest and has falsified any part(s) of a salon ticket or service, the student may be suspended and involuntarily withdrawn from the program.
  11. Failure to wear full required uniform (solid black shoes, uniform pants & top. NO colored or logo tops or shirts)
  12. Failure to wear JSCC Student ID during class at all times.
  13. Cell phone or electrical devices on the Salon Floor without permission from your instructor.
